Wolf Kohn, Founder and Chief Scientist
Dr. Kohn is a distinguished mathematician, scientist, and technological pioneer. He is the cocreator of the mathematical foundations and computational technologies for multiple-agent hybrid control theory, which forms the foundation for Clearsight products. Dr. Kohn was a member of the General Motors team that designed the first computer control for automobile engines, and he pioneered the development of declarative control theory and technology with applications in avionics, air traffic control, robotics, and intelligent manufacturing.
During Dr. Kohn's distinguished career, he has held key technical and scientific positions with leading organizations such as General Motors, Lockheed Corporation, NASA Johnson Space Center, and Boeing Computer Services (BCS). He has won a number of awards, including the Robert E. Gross Award for Technical Excellence from Lockheed, Technical Person of the Year from Clear Lake Technical Societies, numerous technical awards for his work at NASA, and Engineer of the Year while at BCS.
Dr. Kohn is the author of more than 100 papers and two books, and he holds two patents with additional patents pending. He holds a master's degree and PhD in electrical engineering and computer science from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In addition to his duties as chief scientist for Clearsight Systems Inc., he has an affiliate faculty appointment at the University of Washington, Department of Industrial Engineering, where he teaches courses in the field of enterprise control.
Jude Kavalam, Chief Technology Officer
Jude Kavalam brings over 18 years of experience at Microsoft in numerous positions in software development and management. Previously, he was the CTO of HyperQuality for 2.5 years where he was responsible for engineering and development of a state of the art platform for call center agent performance management. During Kavalam's tenure at Microsoft from 1991 through 2005, he was heavily involved with operating systems, databases and advanced technology. He was responsible for program management of the OS Application Model Group and he was awarded six patents in the area of application model on Windows and Internet Explorer. Instrumental in developing the user interface and browser integration of Microsoft's IE Versions 3 & 4, he also led the Microsoft team responsible for the successful port of the SAP R/3 from UNIX to Windows NT and implementation on SQL Server. Kavalam received his M.S. in mathematics & computer science in 1991 at the University of Denver. He also holds a bachelor's degree in business from the University of Bangalore, India.
Jeff Lill, VP of Product Development
Jeff Lill joined Clearsight Systems in 2009 as Senior Vice President of Product Development. Jeff is well known in the technology industry as a leading development entrepreneur. Prior to joining Clearsight Systems, Jeff was the Director of Software Development for AccessLine Communications where he led the design and development of multiple products for various clients. Prior to AccessLine Jeff held various executive and board level roles at leading technology companies including Microsoft and Beyond Ventures LLC.
Jeff founded and sold OpenSpace Corporation where he and his team developed Spectre Portal Server, a Windows/NT-based, template-driven, server featuring integrated Content Management, News Wires, Chat, BBS, Web EMail, Membership database, and a Yahoo-style directory. In addition, Jeff co-founded SofDesign Corp to develop microcomputer software to be marketed by software publishing houses. SofDesign released a series of products before selling Microsoft Project for Windows to Microsoft Corporation.
Jeff has over 20 years in the software and computer industry having held senior level positions with both leading multinational corporations as well as his founded companies. Jeff completed coursework at the University of Washington prior to founding SofDesign, Inc.
Eddie Yip, Director Product Management
Eddie Yip joined Clearsight Systems in 2009 as Director of Product Management with over 15 years of product development experience. A specialist in the critical dynamic of building the relationships between Program Management, Product Design, and User Research Yip has held management positions in both large enterprise and start-up environments.
Most recently Yip was the Creativity and Usability Manager for Microsoft’s Center For Information Work, the immersive enterprise experience created by Microsoft to highlight the future of enterprise technology. In this capacity Yip coordinated market research, user research and ethnography to create “task based” segmentation to identify product opportunities & requirements and was the team leader for launching the Center. Earlier in his career at Microsoft Yip held a number of creative leadership positions including Program Manager for the Desktop Finance Division, Partner Program Manager for MSN and Creative Director for Microsoft Works. In each capacity, Yip managed teams that were responsible for the design and shipping of key products.
In addition to his enterprise experience, Yip also held various positions within successful start-up technology companies including; Accessline Communications where he was a Group Program Manager, Slingshot Communications where he was Director of Marketing, Openspace.com where he was Creative Director, Yip received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California.
Kathrine (Meggie) von Haartman, Senior Operations Research Analyst
Dr. von Haartman recently obtained her PhD in industrial engineering from the University of Washington. Her expertise lies in the areas of
control theory and optimization. She has recently published papers in the area of meta-control.
Alan Balasundaram, Lead Software Developer
Alan Balasundaram has over 10 years experience developing software for a variety of applications with backgrounds in security, operations research, and network architecture.
His previous work includes working for a startup in Issaquah, WA building a range of internet applications including a cloud analytics system and a multifactor authentication server. Prior to this, Alan worked on a high speed stock trading system based on hybrid control theory for use in the stock market. Before moving to Washington, Alan worked for Boeing's Integrated Defense Systems in Saint Louis, MO, building military training simulators for the Department of Defense's Future Combat Systems initiative.
Alan holds a Bachelors of Science in Computer Engineering from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
